Clerk/Motor Vehicle News & Notes 8/2010

2011 Model Year Vehicles
In our last email we told you about an issue regarding the 2011 model year VIN numbers, which are conflicting with the 1981 models in DMV's MAAP system. The problem arises because the tenth character in both model years is "B", which the MAAP system is interpreting as 1981, not 2011. As a result of this issue, you had to select "non compliant" for the VIN whenever processing a 2011 model year vehicle.

As 2011 model year registrations are going to be occurring more frequently then the 1981 model years, DMV has now updated their system to recognize the "B" in a VIN as a 2011 model year. This means you no longer have to select "non compliant" for a 2011 model year. However, you will have to select it for all 1981 models. Also, with this update, you can process a plate replacement for all 2011 model year vehicles, but not for a 1981 model year.

Deposits with Errors
Recently, we have increasingly seen situations where clerks knowingly finalized their deposits when the deposits were not in balance and then called us the next day to resolve the issue. When this happens, our programmers have to go into the town's system and fix the error manually. This process is not an efficient way to fix an error and should only be used as a last resort. Most errors can be fixed before deposit by using Cart Maintenance. So, if you are not in balance and need help fixing the problem, do not finalize the deposit. Give us a call and we will walk you through the correction process.
